In English...

My time in Spain has passed so quickly and I'm not even sure where to begin! My experience here has been more than just that of learning a language and studying a culture. I've learned so much about myself, the person I want to be and the places I want to go. I've met so many people from around the world and am thankful to have met them and understand more deeply the interpretation they have of Americans. Different from what many of us may think. I'm so blessed to have met the people I did along the way and also make such wonderful friends in Spain who I hope to keep in touch with after our studying here in Oviedo.

I have a deep respect for this country and more importantly the people of northern Spain I've been observing for the last 5 weeks. The culture here is very unique. People take the time to sit and drink their morning coffee and "just be." They don't take things to go or stalk up on food for the next five months. They cook everything and buy their groceries one week at a time... fresh from the market. I envy this. Americans (and me especially) are caught up in this ridiculous fast-paced lifestyle where everything is right here, right now and we don't take the time to live life as it should be.
The big thought in my mind... the big conclusion is to"just be." A friend reminded me of a story about Moses when God told him to go to the mountain and "just be"... "be here now." It's important to take the time and realize that the present time we are given is the most precious time. But we so often waste it by obsessing about the future (me) worrying about the future (me) and thinking about the past. Why can't we "JUST BE" in the moment now! Don't worry about anything else... just the time we are given now.
My time in Spain has taught me this! I soaked up every second of dancing in the clubs till sunrise and enjoying a good glass of vino with strangers I instantly become great friends with. I will deeply miss my Spanish mothers good cooking, chocolate croissants, wine, weekend markets and all the people with dogs that truly look just like their dogs.
I can't wait to come back and relive this little moment in time! Spain truly does a body well... XoXo
