Steeplechase
I'm not sure of what y'all imagine a southern social event to be like, but in my eyes, Steeplechase was the EPITOME of a southern social event done right. Lilly dresses, bow ties, seersucker pants and big floppy hats were just the basics...
The Iroquois Steeplechase horserace is by far one of my most favorite things I've done while living in Tennessee. Best part besides getting dressed up and watching beautiful horses race all day... this event supported the children's hospital at Vanderbilt. So feeling guilty for spending a little extra money on a weekend adventure was totally worth it knowing that your hard-earned dollars were going towards something so valuable.
Our morning began bright and early at 7am. The five of us girls were flying around the house curling our hair, trying on dresses and trying to find rain coats and rain boots because the black rainclouds outside weren't looking too promising. I'd have to say i'm impressed that we made it on time and with everything we needed. We left the house and said cheers with our grapefruit mimosas in hand. It was the start of a super great day!
Walking in to our tailgating spot I realized I'd never seen so many "Bama" banners, "Ole Miss" tents and Vandy pride. Confederate flags were every other and there was NO mistaken that you were in the South. I LOVED it. I love the pride that people in the South have. We found our friends and the fun began. The morning was full of meeting new people, enjoying fun drinks and my favorite... people watching!
There were seven horse races throughout the day and I only missed one. Having grown up around horses, I have such an appreciation for them and am stunned by their beauty. Although race horses are a little different than the horses we raise, I loved every second of it.
To say the least, Steeplechase 2015 will be highly prioritized on my never ending to-do list for next year!
